Dera Sachha Sauda holds Nam Charcha, political wing yet to open its cards over support during elections
Ferozepur April 14, 2019: Ahead of Lok Sabha polls in Punjab, the holding of district-level Nam Charcha at Saide Ke Mohan, near Guruharsahai in 71st Ferozepur, by the political wing, by Dera Sachha Sauda – Dera Premis, dedicated to its Foundation Day and attended by a huge gathering, looks to be a leading a campaign to decide with consensus on the political party the group’s followers will support in the elections.
During the Naam Charha Ghar – Congregation House, Gurpreet Sidhu, Sufi Singer put enthusiasm among the Sangat – followers through Shabads.
Premi Mohan Lal, Political Wing of Administrative Team of 45 members made an appeal to the audience to remain united and encouraged them for welfare programmes for the needy.
The assembly at Guruharsahai is said to be one of the biggest as compared to Patiala but no political decision was taken today.
Talking with the media persons, Shinderpal Singh, spokesman of political wing said, the followers of Dera Sachha Sauda have given a proof of united and honour whatever unanimous decision they will take with regarding participation in the coming Lok Sabha polls and the same will be final. To this, all raised their hands in affirmation, he added.
In this Congregation House, the political wing has not opened its cards but in the political circles, this assembly has definitely compelled the political parties to give a second thought to their strategies and speculations.
It is expected that leaders of various political parties are in talks with the political wing of DSS but no assurance has been given to anyone till now. However, it is made clear that all dera followers are united and have the capability to tilt elections results.
Added here, in Punjab, deras have an appreciable influence over their followers and edicts are issued near the elections, asking them to support a particular political party during elections. However, there are different outputs of past experience. The DSS had supported the Congress in 2007 assembly elections, but the party lost power to the SAD even though it had fared well in Malwa. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections and Haryana Assembly poll, the Dera had supported the BJP. In the 2017 Punjab Assembly poll, the Dera supported SAD but the party lost power.
On the other hand, the DSS is struggling hard to regain its influence, especially in Punjab where the SAD is still facing backlash and anger of voters over its alleged link to Akal Talkth’s exoneration in September 2015 of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who had been excommunicated for wearing attire like that of Guru Gobind Singh in 2007. This resulted in to withdraw the pardon in less than a month.
