Ferozepur, July 8, 2023: In a special drive against the fitting of high security number plates (HSRP), while the police removed the non-high security plates and advised to go in for high security number plates, the owners whose vehicles were already having high security number plates were honoured with rose sticks.
To avoid inconvenience, apply high-security number plate online: SP Randhir Kumar
137 challans for not having HSRP in 7 days
Charges: Rs.191 for two-wheelers, Rs.566 for car, Rs.604 for truck
Can show applied slip to avoid challan
The last date for keeping the non-high security plates on the vehicles was June 30 and under the special drive, these plates were removed by putting up a naka at Octroi post number 7 and advised to go ahead with new high security number plates.
The charges for high security number plates are R.191 for two-wheelers, Rs.566 for cars and Rs.604 for trucks.
After this action by the police, there was a crowd in the RTA office for applying for high-security number plates, which had increased to 60 per cent than the normal vehicle owners’ visit for the purpose. Earlier, the 40-45 vehicle owners were visiting whereas now, the figure has crossed 100 even. It takes around 4-5 days after registration to get the high security number plate and earlier one has to wait for around one and a half months. But now, due to a police special campaign, they may have to wait for a longer period.
Added here, the High-security number plates will reduce crimes using fake plates, are difficult to duplicate and ensure uniformity. However, the process of implementing these new plates is going to inconvenience both new car buyers and owners of older cars. Since HSRPs come with a tamper-proof holographic sticker that has to be stuck on the windscreen of the car, any time the windshield has to be replaced you will have to pay a visit to the RTO again. The RTO will have to check the car and then re-issue a holographic sticker for it. If you are involved in an accident, which has damaged the number plate, you will have to visit the RTO to get a fresh number plate issued and re-fitted. This process could cause you inconvenience for a couple of days. However, the cars that have been registered out of town will have a big problem getting high-security number plates as there is no policy on this issue.
As per the information, around 150 challans have been issued during the first week of July and it will be a continued process. One can apply online for high-security number plate by visiting the site of Punjab Transport department – www.punjabtransport.org
SP Randhir Kumar said, there will be a fine of Rs.2,000 for the first time if caught without a high security number plate and Rs.3,000 for the second time and for the third time, the vehicle number will be blacklisted.
He said, in case the vehicle owner has applied for a high security number place, then he can show the slip to save from the challan.
