Dalit community demands ban on Punjabi Singer Amrit Mann’s entry at Basant Mela
Ferozepur, February 6, 2024: The SC community in Ferozepur represented by various outfits under the banner of Reservation Chor Fdo Pakka Morcha Mohali Punjab, to ban the entry of Amrit Mann Punjabi Singer at the State Level Basant Mela being organized at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University on February 10 and 11.
In a press meeting today, Sham Lal Bhangi, Punjab Core Committee Member, Pippal Sahota, Bhavdas, Mukesh Meghnath, Vicky Chadliya, Vijay Atwal, Ravi Khandiya, Deep Dasand Ravan Sena, Montu Gill Dr Ambedkar Sarb Dharam Sabha and Surjit Bhatti, District President Dihati Bhavdas said, we oppose the presentation of Amrit Mann, Punjabi Singer at Basant Mela.
Added here, Amrit Mann’s father Sarbjeet Singh, made a fake SC certificate to get a government job as a math teacher reserved for the SC category in 1989. The incident came to light after retired Punjab officer Avtar Singh Sahota submitted a complaint to CM Bhagwant Mann alleging that Sarbjeet got the job on a fake SC certificate and worked for over 34 years.
They said the father Amrit Mann had gone abroad before associating with the inquiry by the government. Taking the government job on fake SC certificates has violated the rights of Dalits and there is a great resentment among the SC community. We have given a separate memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and SSP in this regard, to ban his entry and presentation. In case no action is taken by the district administration, we will oppose it with black flags.
