Crackdown on bootleggers by Excise Deptt, destroys 25,000 ltrs ‘lahan’
Ferozepur, October 31, 2020: In a major crackdown, after the hooch tragedy at Amritsar and Tarn Taran, taking more than 100 lives, against the bootlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, special teams of excise department raided various hideouts alongside river Sutluj and the teams succeeded in destroying 25,000 liters of Lahan, and 200 bottles of illicit liquor besides recovering of other material used in brewing procedure which was taken into custody.
Giving more details ETO Karambir Mahla said, a joint raid by excise and police officials was carried out in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of village Habib Ke a team of Excise Inspector and ASI Balbir Singh of Narcotic Cell incharge.
He said that the department was on its mission against the smuggling, bootlegging and manufacturing of illegal liquor as a large number of raids have been conducted recently with massive recovery of illicit liquor, lahan besides destroying live manufacturing units. The department has also initiated the procedure of lodging of an FIR against the cartels of this illegal trade, he added.
