Ferozepur, October 17, 2015 : After the incident of torn off a few pages of Guru Granth Sahib in the village Gurdwara in Naju Shah Mishri on Ferozepur-Zira road on Friday, by some unidentified miscreants, the situation in this border town remained tense today when a bandh call was given by certain youths who moved through the bazaars on bikes, to shutter down and close of schools, with naked swords and lathis.
To restore peace in the city and harmony among the people of all classes, a meeting with the prominent citizens, NGOs and representatives of various religious institutions, was addressed by the Deputy Commissioner, Er.DPS Kharbanda and Senior Superintendent of Police, Hardyal Singh Mann.
Sandeep Singh Garha, ADC and Jatinder Jorwal, IAS Asstt. Commissioner (under trainee) were also present in the meeting.
Speaking on this occasion, Er.DPS Kharbanda in a very sentimental mood condemned the incident of sacrilege of ‘Bir’ as ill-timed and nobody wants prosperous Punjab to be influenced by evil eye or affected by another's malevolent look.
He admitted that the incident has hurt the sentiments of all communities but shortly there will be positive results.
He advised the religious institution to get install CCTV cameras so that the miscreants could be easily identified in the event of any such incident in future.
SSP, Hardayal Singh Mann in a very submissive voice shared that the incident of torn off of pages of holy book could be the work of either enemy or mad but our priority is to maintain peace and harmony.
Expressing concern, SSP said, on such incidents is natural but the seniors have double duty by virtue of their experiences in the past to control the situation.
The incident has occurred at different places in the state, under planned conspiracy. We are worshipper of peace and we should keep our eyes and ears open to catch hold on the culprits, he said.
All possible efforts are going on at the level of district administration and police to nab the miscreants immediately, he added.
All present in the meeting condemned the act of sacrilege of ‘Bir’ at Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Muktsar Jalandhar.
Those who spoke on the desecration of ‘Bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib and the subsequent killing of two protesters at Kotkapura were – Darshan Singh Rakhri, Chairman, Block Samiti, Navneet Kumar Gora, Akali leader, Nand Kishore Googan, President Arthia Association, Ferozepur Cantt, Paramjit Singh Kalsi, Sarabjit Singh Chhabra, Hari Chand Kamboj, Advocate President Bar Association, Ashwani Mehta, President Beopar Mandal, Inder Singh Gogia, Presidnet, NGOs, Abhishek Arora, President, Helping Handz Foundation, Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, General Secretary, Youth Congress while number of representatives of various social and religious organizations were also present.
Suggestions put forward were to install CCTV cameras at religious places, designate a place for registering of protest by the protesters, close down the school till Dushera, hold regular peace meetings at district, wards and pachayat level, youths should not aggressively moved in the city with naked swords lathis in their hands, administration should hold separate meeting with the agitators, accused should be given exemplary punishment so that no one dares to do so in future, organizes protests in a peaceful manner so that public is put to inconvenience and keep lit up the religious places so that someone may not take the benefit of darkness to repeat any untoward incident.
Many feared that ‘past may not become present’ as Punjab has already suffered decade’s terrorism period because of 1984 riots.
