Central Jail Ferozepur once again comes under scanner – 25 mobiles recovered from 25 prisoners
Ferozepur, February 12, 2017: Despite claiming of security check at various places in the Central Jail, after the Nabha jail break incident, the Ferozepur Central Jail is once again posed a threat to the security of this high profile prison, with the recovery of 25 mobiles from 25 prisoners and under-trial on Saturday.
In the past also, there has been recovery of mobile and SIMs from the barracks in the jail and recently a case was also booked with the arrest of a person for throwing a material on the back wall of the jail.
The cell-phones inside the jail, help criminals in threatening witnesses, besides planning escape from the jail. Sometimes, the prisoners also extort money while staying in the jail. In many cases, relatives of prisoners provide mobile phones to the inmates during their hearing in the court. Similarly, narcotic substances and other communication devices reach jails hidden in the supplies to the jail.
The police has registered a case against 25 prisoners of the jail under Section 52-A of Prisons Act 1894 on the complaint of Amer Sngh Rana , Supdt. Jail. There is no mention in the FIR as to how many mobiles were recovered during the search operation. However, the I.O. Balwinder Singh who is investigating into the case confirmed of recovery of 25 mobiles.
The prisoner accused booked are Pargat Singh, Ramu, Dildeep Singh, Suhdev Singh, Amandeep Singh, Tejinder Singh, Sukdarshan Singh, VArinder Singh, Dharampal, Pamma, Rakesh Kumar, Surjit Singh and prisoners under trial are Gurnam Singh, Sandeep Singh, Balwinder Singh, Salinder Singh, Gurjant Singh Pippal Singh, Balwinder Singh, Jasbir Singh, Surjit Singh Anam, Sukhdev Sukha, Jaswnat Singh and Kewal Singh.
In another case, three prisoners have been booked over a dispute between the two groups inside the jail.
None of the jail officials picked up the phone despite calling to comment on the security check arrangements of the jail as the entry of mobiles to the barracks cannot be ruled without the connivance of the jail authorities.
Added here, the Ferozepur housed around1600 inmates including over 150 notorious criminals and gangsters against its capacity of 1300. The jail is situated in the heart of the city with thickly populated area on the three sides and main Mall Road on the front and once it was decided to shift the jail to nearby village Khai Pheme Ki and during February 2014, CM Parkash singh Badal had sanctioned Rs.250 crore for its relocation but that could not be materialized perhaps due to paucity of funds.
