Cap on age and attempts for NEET aspirants will discourage students for higher studies

Ferozepur, January 25, 2017:  The parents and teachers are of view that the cap and age attempts limit for medical aspirants, will not encourage the students rather discourage them to pursue their studies further and are against the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for capping on the limit on the number of attempts to three for medical aspirants and maximum age at 25 years for general category and 30 years for the reserved category.

In fact, a cap has been introduced to discourage the thousands who keeptrying their luck at the examination.

The UGC has capped the number of attempts a medical aspirant under  National Eligiblity and Entrance Test (NEET) with a view to discourage those who never say die and keep trying and trying for years.

NEET is a single window entrance examination for entry to undergraduate and post graduate medical courses in the country.   No other entrance examination either at state level or institutional level is valid any more.  A common entrance test was brought in to save students from appearing for multiple entrance tests and minimize corruption and irregularities in admissions to medical courses.

Speaking to this correspondents, Vijay Garg, Lecturer from Malout said, there are some students who keep taking the test, and when they don't make the cut, join a B.Sc college and keep taking the medical entrance test.  But with the capping of age and attempts will debar them to be in medical line.

This decision of UGC will definitely dishearten us and our parents  also who want to see their children in the medical line.  The UGC should withdraw this decision and revoke its earlier decision with no bar on attempts, said Robit and Rajesh appearing in the NEET for the third attempt.

On the other hand,  the rule would also bar the faculty of coaching classes who keep on attempting the test to understand its altering pattern. It is also seen that coaching classes field candidates and sometimes that leads to fraud and cheating.
