BSF seizes 9 packets of heroin in Abohar Sector
Ferozepur, March, 8, 2017 : On 08 March 2017, Border Security Force personnel successfully seized 09 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post New Gazniwala, Ex- 118 Bn BSF, Sector Abohar.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border due to high grown wheat crops, cold weather and heightened activities of smugglers/ Anti-National Elements on border, Shri Mukul Goel, IPS, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to all the Sectors under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination so as to effectively check activities of Anti-National Elements on Punjab border with Pakistan. Accordingly, DIG Sector BSF Abohar directed Field Commanders to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart the attempts of Anti- National Elements. Tactical Operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of the smugglers during this foggy season.
On 08th March’ 2017 at about 1320 hrs, BSF troops on duty in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post New Gazniwala, Ex- 118 Bn BSF, Sector Abohar observed some freshly dug soil ahead of Border Security Fence. Accordingly, a Special Search Operation was launched in above area. During search, BSF party recovered 09 packets of (approx. 4.6 Kgs) contraband suspected to be heroin, concealed in the agricultural fields ahead of Border Security Fence.
The enhanced vigil of BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers/ Anti-National Elements to smuggle contraband items into India. During the year 2017, BSF has effected 36.4 Kgs including 9 packets weighing 4.6 kg.
