Ferozepur, August 25, 2023: Due to increase in level of water, the remaining persons and animals are being rescued with the help of BSF in ‘Beda’ of Kaluwala village, known as ‘island’ being covered from three sides with Sutelj River and fourth side touching the International Border fence with Pakistan.

In rest of the flood affected areas, the villagers around 300 have moved to high plain, relatives or in the relief camps. Even certain residents were unwilling to evacuate to take care of surviving cattle despite issuing alerts by the district administration. Even the water has entered government school building where people had taken shelter for more than a month. They had not given hope and are still in high spirit.
The NGOs of the area working day and night to take care of the flood affected areas. The ‘bandh’ at Khilcha, Nihalewala is being raised by the villagers will the help of NGOs which has saved the move of water to the villages towards the city which is 7-8 feet high and boats has become the only accessible means of transport.
On Thursday, the relief material was given to the villagers and motivated to leave the village.
Around 50 villages were affected with the flood along with Sutlej River near Hussaniwala International border. The water started receding gradually but with the release of water from Harike headworks, the level further increases.

The bridge of Hazara Singh Wala which connects 20 villages to Ferozepur City has temporarily been connected by the army and the movement of persons and vehicle has started. However, Gatti Rajo Ke bridge connectivity is also closed due to heavy flow of water, which too used by the people and around 600 students are likely to face problem in going to the school when the things are normal. Deputy Commissioner has directed the concerned department for its repairs on priority as soon as the water level goes down in the area.

Meanwhile, the district administration has asked the revenue officials to make a survey in a transparent manner so that due compensation is transferred in their accounts for which funds have started pouring in and the first instalment of Rs.22 crore has been received.
