BSF, Pakistan Rangers exchange sweets on Deepavali at JCP Hussainiwala
Hussainiwala/ Ferozepur, November 5, 2021: Personnel of the border security force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers exchanged sweets and Deepavali wishes on Friday at the international border in Ferozepur at Hussainiwala.
In Punjab, the exchange of sweets takes place on all the three major international border posts of Attari, Hussaniwala, and Sadqi.
Exchange of sweets is a traditional practice carried out by BSF and Pak Rangers on various religious and national events including Independent Day and Republic Day to maintain harmony on the border and for coordination between two forces for better border management.
In fact, such exchange of sweets and wishes on festivals of national importance enhance mutual harmony and brotherhood and also plays an important role in maintaining friendly and peaceful atmosphere along the border between two border guarding forces, said second in command BSF, Barinder Singh greeting his Pakistan counterpart by giving a box of sweets, the gesture was reciprocated by Rangers officials.
Normally, the friendlier gesture, however, comes to a halt when tension mounts between two countries.
Added here, in 2016 there was no exchange of sweets on the occasion of Diwali but the gesture was resumed in 2017. However, the sweets diplomacy is also an indication of the current state of relations between the two nations.
