Bharat Bandh on fuel price hike, Congress workers burn Modi’s effigy

Ferozepur September 10, 2018: The Bharat Bandh call by the united opposition over rising fuel prices and depreciation of the rupee has mixed response in this border town.  Except for the protest by the Congress party workers, the life was peaceful and normal in the city without any violent incident.

The Congress party workers led by Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa, District Presiden,t burn in effigy of Modi government over the rising fuel prices in the country. The protesters shouted slogans against the Central government and demanded the rollback of fuel prices.

Speaking to the media persons, Dhindsa said, the protest is against the unnecessary burden of the increase in prices of crude oil in the international market, to the consumers in the country by rising prices of petrol and diesel and domestic gas for the kitchen.

He said, the day the Modi government has come, the inflation graph has been on the rising trend and no promises made during the 2014 polls have been fulfilled.

Levelling charges of imposing of demonetization and GST, the common man has been badly affected.  He said the hike in oil prices has the overall impact on almost all the items with the involvement of transportation factor. The Modi government has done this with an aim to benefit the capitalists because the government is working only for the benefit of this class,  by keeping oil out of the purview of GST.

 Giving a warning to the Modi government, the protesters said, in case the prices of petrol and diesel are not reduced, the Congress party will be compelled to intensify its agitation along with the common men.

Diwan Chand Sukhija, a retiree and active social worker said the hike in petrol prices has affected the common man.  The prices all essential commodities have gone up which in turn will hit the common man hard.

Present among others hundreds of Congress workers, Parminder Singh, senior Congress leader, Harinder Singh Khosa, Kamal Aggarwal Block President Mudki, Tarlok Pilot were also present.
