Devinder Bajaj, MC elect showed resentment
Ferozepur, March 14: In conflicting situation, Ashwani Grover, BJP MC from Ward Number 3, was elected as the New President of Ferozepur Municipal Council while SAD MC from Ward Number 23 Puran Singh Jossan was elected as the Senior Vice President. Kamla Mehta, BJP MC from Ward Number 4 was elected as the Vice-President.
State BJP President Kamal Sharma, Sher Singh Ghubaya, Member of Parliament from Ferozepur, BJP MLA from Jalandhar (North) and Chief Parliamentry Secretary K D Bhandari also marked their presence in the investiture ceremony of the newly elected MC president.
However, Davinder Bajaj expressed resentment over electing of Grover as President MC, Ferozepur. Bajaj along with his supporters later reached the residence of Kamal Sharma State BJP President. Later speaking to media persons, he announced to take further course of action after taking into confidence his supporters.
Ashwani Grover said that to bring the Municipal Council out of red, strict measures will be taken to raise funds for the development of the city.
Kamal Sharma, while talking to the media persons expressed his hope for a team work from the elected MCs. He also said that despite constrained relations between SAD and BJP, both have decided to meet every month over a coordination committee meeting for better understanding.
It may however, be mentioned that with revolt of Davinder Bajaj another aspirant for President’s post and his supporters, the fissures were visible when slogans were raised against the newly elected President. Bajaj is trying for support from other elected members including independents to put forth a demand for re-election.
It may also be added that infighting in 2008 had also affected the development work of the city and working of the Municipal Council as well. Not only this, in May 2010, with the intervention of State BJP leader, a compromise formula was worked for President’s chair on rotation basis – Davinder Kapoor (May 4, 2010 to November 28, 2011) and Ashwani Grover (December 14, 2011 to July 22, 2013)
