Contractual doctors in Health Department demand weightage in government jobs

Ferozepur 21, August 22, 2020: Several Doctors who were earlier hired on a voluntary basis to render health services during Covid pandemic are now demanding that the services which they have already discharged during the pandemic be given weightage in the recruitment of 500 doctors by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

In a letter shot off to the Director, Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Parmpreet Kaur, presently working as Medical Officer at Covid Care Centre at Village Hukumat Singh Wala, has demanded that preference should be given to the medical officers who are already standing with the government in fight against Covid 19 pandemic and working day and night to contain the spread of this deadly virus.

Parmpreet said that after completing her MBBS in 2019, she was appointed as House Surgeon on contract basis in Emergency T-Ward at the civil hospital in Ferozepur from August 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020.

Parmpreet said that earlier she had been selected by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to work as a volunteer at Covid Care Centre at Village Hukumat Singh Wala in this district. Out of all Medical staff and volunteers appointed by DDMA, several of them left or resigned midway and only a few dedicated medical staff continues to still discharge their services, she said.

“Recently, 500 posts of Medical Officers have been advertised by the health department, however, unfortunately, no wieghtage has been given to the medical officers who are already standing with the government against this fight against Covid-19. It is very unfortunate that while verbal appreciations are being showered on us and we are being called “Corona Warriors”, but when it comes to actually help us out, the state government is failing”, she added.

“ I request that the medical officers who are already working with the department on a temporary basis, should be given some weightage for the services being rendered by them in this crucial time”, she added.
