Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s niece Gurjeet Kaur Dhatt pays tributes on his 112th birth anniversary, raises voice for Bharat Ratna

Ferozepur, September 28, 2019:  Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s niece – Gurjeet Kaur from Hoshiarpur especially joined the 112th birth day celebrations today by  Shaheed Bhagat Singh Rajguru Sukhdev Memorial Foundation, who organized a bike and cycle rally from Saragarhi historical gurudwara to Hussainiwala Memorial.

Sohan Singh Sodhi, cyclists who had travelled all the way from Hussainiwala to Khatkar Kalan on Friday morning to collect soil to plant sapling in memory at Hussainiwala Martyrs Memorial, joined back today morning at 9.30 am, after covering 390 kms cycling.

Today’s rally on way to Hussainiwala, the members of Press Club, Ferozepur led by Parminder Singh Thind, President and Harcharan Singh Sama, Chairman welcomed at  Press Club Chowk and Shaheed Udham Singh chowk and distributed ‘ladoos’ – sweets – to celebrate the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh.

Addressing the lovers of Bhagat Singh, Gurjit Kaur Dhatt said, “Shaheed Bhagat Singh used to say, my relative is who follows my ideology”.  She said, martyrs are our light house and role model for the youths. Our fight against the freedom with the sacrifice of countless martyrs, has not stopped even after independence. Our youths should recognize the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and stand united against any wrongs in the country to fulfill his dream.

On asking about the demand raised from Pakistan for recognizing the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh by giving the highest honour of Bharat Ratna, she said, it’s very unfortunate that so far Bhagat Singh has not been  given the status of ‘martyr’ by any government but  I am happy that people in Pakistan are fighting to prove the innocence of Bhagat Singh have raised this demand.  The government, which has not given the status of martyrs so far, as to when they will consider for the highest civil award.  I also appeal to the Indian government for this honour to Bhagat Singh.

Added here, Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, advocate by profession and Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation in Pakistan has also raised the voice for Bharat Ratna to Shaheed Bhagat Singh by the India  government and Nishan-e-Pakistan by Pakistan government, in acknowledgment of his sacrifice for freedom of India and Pakistan from British.

Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, the only aim of freedom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was that all should enjoy the freedom and dream of equality with jobs and basic needs to all but our governments are not fulfilling his dreams.  He said, the daydream of martyrs who brought freedom to the country without any self-interest, can only be fulfilled if the people and government adopt their ideology in our lives.

Later, Sohan Singh Sodhi cyclist on reaching Hussainiwala planted the sapling near the Samadhi with soil from Khatkar Kalan, in memory of Bhagat Singh.
