Heavy water discharge from Pak damage embankment at Tendiwala village,
Ferozepur, August 24, 2019: District administration, Army and NDRF teams went on high alert Saturday evening as heavy water discharge from Pakistan Side caused damage to the embankment at village Tendiwala. Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Mr. Chander Gaind and SSP Mr. Vivek S. Soni visited the spot just after receiving the information and roped in the key departments to repair the damaged embankment.
Interaction with the media, the Mr. Gaind said that due to heavy inflow of water released from Pakistan caused damage to the embankment in this village adding that he said that the precautionary deployment of NDRF and Army teams have been made in the area to tackle any kind of flood-like situation.
The deputy commissioner said that immediate work to strengthen the embankment has been initiated with the help of irrigation and drainage departments. Gunny bags full of sands have been sought by the administration to fill the rift in the embankment, added Mr. Gaind. He said that the district administration will leave no stone unturned to combat floods and a large number of precautionary steps have already been taken including the deployment of forces, repairing of the embankment, etc.
The deputy commissioner said that the water first goes to Pakistan from Ferozepur district and then comes back to Ferozepur and this phenomenon takes place multiple times creating a Zig-Zag movement of the water but Pakistan has released water in huge quantity then it enters into Pakistan. This huge amount of water discharged has caused damage to embankments in village Tendiwala, looming danger of floods on various villages, said Mr. Gaind.
He further added that the district administration has announced in most sensitive villages along the River Satluj for evacuation as a precautionary step besides deploying various teams of the health department, food and civil supplies department and others.
