Waiving off debt of marginal farmers a historic decision by Punjab Govt : Rana Sodhi

Guruharsahai (Ferozepur), May 29, 2018: "The Punjab Government in a historic, as well as brave decision, has waived off the debt amounting to Rs. 10,22000 crore of the small and marginal farmers."
This was disclosed here today by the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on the occasion of a function held to provide the benefit under the debt relief scheme to 2900 farmers of Guru Harsahai constituency. The debts to the tune of Rs. 20 crores of these farmers were waived off.
The minister said that whereas on one hand, the Punjab Government is taking special steps to inculcate use of modern technology in farming to increase the income of the farmers, on the other debt relief scheme has been introduced to get the farming community out of the economic mess. He said that the debt amounting to Rs. 20 crores of 2900 marginal farmers of Guru Harsahai have been waived off who own less than 2.5 acres of land and had availed loans up to Rs. 2 lakh from the cooperative banks. He said that in spite of the previous government leaving an empty exchequer the present Congress government has provided a big relief to the farmers by waiving off their loans.
The minister while coming to the sports sphere elaborated that reforms on the major scale have been effected in the sports policy being readied by the state government and these reforms would make the policy both player and the sports friendly. He said that sports grounds would be upgraded and modern amenities would be provided to the players in order to produce players of National and International repute. The cash amount given to the medal winners would see an increase and government jobs would also be provided to the players. He also brought to light that under the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar' plan, 162000 youth have been given jobs in government as well as the private sector.
In his address on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr Ramvir said that in the function held at Ferozepur earlier 8991 farmers belonging to the district saw their debt worth Rs. 58.73 crore waived off. So far, debts worth Rs. 70 crore of the 12000 farmers has been written off. He also divulged that the debt waiver money would be credited directly into the bank accounts of the farmers and if any farmer has remained devoid of the benefits of debt waiver scheme then survey of such farmers would be conducted and debt waived off.

Ravi Sharma, Mr Gurdip Singh Dhillon, Adv. Shavinder Singh, Mr Naseeb Singh Sandhu, Mr. Amritpal Singh, Mr Raju Sayian, OSD Mr. Vicky Sandhu, Mr. Davinder Jung, Mr. Ravi Dutt Chawla and officers from various departments members of cooperative societies.
