Punjab teachers protest over reducing of wages on regularization
Ferozepur, March 11, 2018: Irate over the decision of the Punjab Government to regularize the service of teachers on certain conditions, today, the various Teachers Unions burn in effigy of Punjab Government, in protest against the decision of the Congress government led by Amarinder Singh, to bring the teachers and employees in education department at the start of pay scale on regularization by putting a cut of 70-80 percent of the existing wages.
Such staff is working in education department for more than a decade and there is a great resentment among them over reducing their wages to the minimum scale and in December 2016, it was decided to regularize the contractual employees by protecting the wages but the same has not been implemented so far rather new formula for regularization of services has been evolved.
Jagsir Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Khanpuria spokesmen of teachers said, on the one hand, the Supreme Court has already ordered for equal work equal pay whereas it is the conspiracy of the government to reduce the wages through the new Act to bring down the teachers getting Rs.50,000 to Rs.10,300.
The leaders said the Chief Minister and Education Minister are backing out to discuss the demand of the teachers across the table and bureaucracy with the new Act is compelling them to take the highest step of suicide.
They said, the survival of both husband and wife who are in service, have managed their day today affairs according to their present wages and one well imagine their plight if reduced to the wages with the minimum pay scale.
A massive rally will be organized under the banner of Joint Teachers Front on March 25 at Ludhiana to register their protest, they added.
