Drive in queue and drive at a distance is ‘Road Safety Mantra’, says Ravi Kumar

Ferozepur, November 21, 2017:  The deaths on roads are much more than the deaths due to terrorism and during 2016; there were around 25,000 deaths by the terrorists while in road accidents it was around 1.50 lacs.  It is an alarming figure and situation as well for India and there is a need for a multi-pronged approach to ensure and promote safety on roads.

As per the report for the first half of 2017 on road accidents, it is encouraging that road accident has dropped by 3 percent and fatalities dropped to 4.75%.

During 2016, the deaths due to road accidents  were 1,50,785, in 2015 1,46,133, in 2014 1,39,671, in 2013 1,37,423 and in 2012 it was 1,39,091.

In Ferozepur itself, at the start of the smog environment, five persons died on November 7 on Ferozepur-Fazilka road including three teachers who were going to the schools in routine.  In 2013, there was a severe accident in which 13 persons died. In all, during the last three years, 271 people have died.

Ravi Kumar, Traffic Incharge District Ferozepur said, the reasons behind the road accidents are the majority of them due to over speed, followed by overtaking, use of mobile while driving and two-wheelers are the maximum victims.

Giving the road safety mantra, he said, “Drive in a queue and drive at a distance is the best formula to avoid accidents on roads”.

He further said, if the people follow the traffic rules sincerely and honestly, what to say of jams on the roads, there will not be even a single accident on the road and precious lives can be saved which ultimately affect the family whose only bread-earner is lost.
