Punjab Police officials should come forward for public services with more dedication : DIG
Ferozepur October 2, 2017 : The Punjab Police would ever remain indebted to its illustrious heroes, who brought laurels to the Police force through their gallantry deeds, said DIG Rajinder Singh while presiding over the 58th Commemoration Day programme organized at Police Line to pay homage to the to the martyrs by their families of the martyrs and the officials of police, civil administration, and judiciary. Rajinder Singh DIG Ferozepur Range recalled that stellar role of the Punjab Police in preserving the hard-earned peace in the state besides safeguarding the unity and integrity of the country. He said, the history of Commemoration Day dates back to 21st October 1959, when a patrol party of CRPF led by SI Karam Singh fought back bravely when ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Laakh, 10 jawans were killed.
He said, the Punjab Police would ever remain indebted to its illustrious heroes, who brought laurels to the Police force through their gallantry deeds.
He said, In the memorandum of the meetings of all the State's IGPs in 1960 to keep alive the memory of those killed and other police officers/employees killed during the duty, it was decided that every year all the district headquarters and other police units to celebrate this day on October 21.
He further said that 1784 police officers/employees were killed in Punjab, including DIG-2, SSP-3, SP-4, DSP-12, Inspector-32, Sub Inspector-61, Assistant sub-inspector-111, Havildar-268, Sipahi-817, Home Guards Volunteer-294 and SPO-180 laid down their precious lives while retaining the unity and integrity of the country.
Out of these 44 employees belonged to Ferozepur district – Sub Inspector-I, ASI-4, HC-10, Sipoy-7, SPOs-5 and PSG-17 and we can never forget them we have. We have full regard for these martyrs and will always be there, he added.
Talking to the media persons on the occasion, DIG said that all help will be to the families of martyrs at any difficult time. He called upon the police officers, youths that with the guidance of their martyrs, the Punjab Police should devote more responsibility towards public services.
He said that the police have always made great sacrifices to maintain the unity and integrity of the country and police youth should always be prepared to carry out their duties with full submission.
Presenting floral tributes to martyrs, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, SSP said that the Punjab Police has a glorious history and full of sacrifices and the Punjab Police has given great sacrifices to maintain the unity, integrity and communal harmony of the country and peace in the country which can never be forgotten.
The Punjab police maintaining this tradition, will continue to carry out their obligations towards internal security, he added.
On this occasion, he listened to their grievances and directed the concerned officers to solve their problems on priority.
Earlier, the wreaths were placed at the Martyrs’ Monument at the police line by the DiG, SSO, Civil Judges, and police officers SP(I), Kashmir Kaur, SP (Crime Against Women) also joined the ceremony. Ajmer Singh Bath remembered by reading out the list of the names of the officers and jawans who lost their lives in different security forces of the country and the families of the police, judiciary and martyrs also presented floral wreaths at the Shaheedi monument at the police lines,
Police personnel team lead by DSP Harinder Singh Dod stood in silence for two-minutes with their weapons reversed as a mark of homage to their brethren who were killed in action.
A token of love was presented to the families of the martyrs by the police and judicial officials.
A large number of police and civil officers and officials were present.
