Dev Samaj College for Women gets “College of Excellence” status
Ferozepur, August ,2016: After 82 years of its establishment Dev Samaj College for Women (DSCW) here on Thursday attained recognition as a college of excellence. Only 72 colleges from the country were eligible to apply for the status of “College with Potential for Excellence” and “College of Excellence”. Henceforth, after many rounds of screening, only three colleges were conferred with this prestigious status of ‘College of Excellence’. The other two colleges are from Tamil Nadu, whereas no college out of the 29 states could get this covetous status.
Added here, Dev Samaj college for women, Ferozepur, was established in the year 1934 as a pioneer women institute with the sole objective of empowering the women of nation with the invincible weapon of higher education. The college that embarked on its academic Journey with the mere midget steps in the year 1934, has today attained unparalleled recognition as a College of Excellence in the whole of country. The destinies of DSCW began to swerve in all successful directions in the hands of its superbly dynamic principal Dr. Mrs. Madhu Prashar, who came at the helm of its affairs in 1992. This was a most catalytic moment after which a revolutionary transition began to set in, in the realm of women education. With her assiduousness and enthusiasm, Dr. Prashar changed the complete cartography of women education, as the college today with it multifarious glittering achievements has won an impeccable reputation of the Mecca of quality education that is smeared with moral rectitude and ethical edification of its students in a manner so holistic and composite.
Highlighting the achievements of the college, Dr.Madhu Prashar, Principal said, the college situated on Indo Pak border a remote backward area, has opened the flood gates of higher education to the girls of the region. In the row of its accomplishments, after accolade on accolade, like the title of India's number one college with phenomenally high score of 3.74 in its reaccreditation of NAAC (2013-14), a college with potential for excellence status, a star college status, Principal's having been conferred with the national and state awards and also as being the only woman principal embellished with Bagat Puran Singh Award with the honor of rupees one lakh in the whole of India, DSCW has also translated the Skill India dream of Its Prime Minister by establishing a Skilled Education Center, now the brightest and the biggest in the Galaxy of its achievements is the star of ‘College of Excellence’ Status with which the UGC New Delhi has bedecked the firmament DSCW, that is the pinnacle of any academic glory, an educational institute can rarely reach, as this is the highest status an educational institute can achieve. The path to the status of College of Excellence is a full zig-zag, riddled with many obstacles. In a country like India where there is a mushroom of colleges, only 72 college out of the entire India were eligible to apply for the status of ‘College with Potential’ for excellence and ‘College of Excellence’ (in 2016). Henceforth, after many rounds of sedulous scanning, only 3 colleges have been conferred with this prodigiously prestigious status of ‘College of Excellence’. The other two colleges are from Tamilnadu, whereas no college out of the 29 states could get this covetous status. On the top of it, DSCW is the only college in Punjab in present year (2016) to be awarded with the status of ‘College of Excellence’.
While shedding light on the eligibility criteria to become a ‘College with Excellence’, the Principal Dr. Mrs. Madhu Prashar told that a college with the minimum score of 3.55 in the accreditation of NAAC and with the status of a College with Potential for Excellence is eligible to apply for this status. Even after getting the status of a College with Potential for Excellence, the colleges are not directly awarded with the status of college of Excellence. It is only DSCW which, due to its hugely meritorious achievements and standards of quality education, has been directly endowed with this scintillating status.
On this mega occasion, the principal overwhelmed with joy, said that her dream has got translated into reality under the able guidance of the management of DSCW, which has its visionary chairman and secretary DSCW, Shriman Nirmal Singh Ji, whose quality leadership has steered the college towards the path of this glitz and glory. She also conveyed her profoundest of gratitudes towards the Chief Minister of Punjab S Parkash Singh Badal, the entire state machinery, the vice chancellor Panjab university, Prof. Arun Grover, Members senate, Registrar of PU, Controller of Examination and other Functionaries of the varsity with whose contributions, DSCW has set this benchmark.
On this occasion, Dean College Development, Er Prateek Prashar told that under this scheme of the UGC, the college has also got the grant of rupees 2 crore and he also jubilantly shared that the time is round the corner, when DSCW will be an Autonomous College.
