Zira (Ferozepur) : When the Punjab Assembly has brought a new law of life term for sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, a fresh incident of 10 Shri Guru Granth Sahib – sacred books – including dozens of other holy books – Gutka, Pothi, Japuji Sahib – have been reported to have caught fire at Sach Khand in the gurudawara, at village Behal Fattu (Ghurk) 6 KMs from Makhu and transformed into ashes in the incident.

According to the first hand information, the very unfortunate incident is reported to be due to short circuit.

Added here, The Punjab assembly has passed the Indian Penal Code (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2016 that seeks life imprisonment for sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib — by adding section 295 AA in IPC — and enhancement of punishment under section 295 of IPC — injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class — from two to 10 years. Whereas, the leader of Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi sought the same proposed punishment for disrespect to other religions too.

In the past, the Punjab has been rocked by a series of protests over a number of desecration incidents taking place in the state starting with Bargari at Faridkot.   singe

Immediately on getting the information, Er,DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, Manminder Singh, SSP alongwith Hardev Singh, DSP Zira, Devinder Parkash, SHO Zira reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

Hari Singh Zira, MLA Zira also reached at the gurudwara.  Sharing his sentiments with the people of the area, he ordered the district administration to investigate into the matter for proceeding further strictly under the law.

The residents of village – Sarpanch Sewa Singh, Panchayat Member Harbhajan Sigh, Dyal Singh, Dr.Hari Singh, Bohar Singh, Parkash Singh informed that for the last month, the Granthi of Gurudawara Sahib was not coming and in his place, Bhai Bagicha Singh was given the duty by the committee.  However, the non-working of CCTV cameras installed for the last one week has created a suspicion.

They informed that today morning, Bhai Mohan saw that smoke is coming out of the Gurudawara and on opening the door, it was found that there was a fire in the Sach Khand Sahib.  On calling the people, the fire was brought under control but in the mean time, 10 number of Sri Guru Granth Sahib have been gutted in the incident along with other holy books.

However, during the preliminary investigation, it seems that the incident took place due to electrical short circuit and denied any foul play, said SHO.

Later the police had lodged a case under sections 295, 295-A was registered against unidentified persons (Case number 53 Dated 29.04.2016) and made all arrangements of security to meet any untoward situation on account of the incident.
