Ferozepur, March 3, 2016 : To create awareness in this competition era, Punjab Agriculture Department in association with various government departments, Farm Self Help Club, organized Farmers Awareness Seminar at village Toot near Ferozepur, with successful stories of farmers for adopting the agriculture profession through crop diversification, to enhance the farmer’s income through food processing and marketing besides availability of loan and subsidy facilities.

The agriculture experts and progressive  gave tips to about 400 farmers who participated in the seminar, to adopt the agriculture as profitable profession.

The seminar was presided over by Amar Singh Chahal, DIG Ferozepur Range and Vineet Kumar, Addl. Deputy Commissioner (Development).

Among the exhibitions put up the Agri., Dairy Dev., Horticulture, and Fisheries departments, the stall by G.S.Mushroom from village
Gurali in Tehsil Zira by Gurdeep Singh Namberdar, was the centre of attraction.

Congratulating the organizers for organizing the seminar in the remote village, Amar Singh Chahal, DIG appealed to the people gto contribute in the development of the state and nation,  keeping aside the personal enmities.

Our population is increasing and land is reducing and our day today life is not economically sound. At the same time, suicide is not solution.  We should work hard like the successful progressive farmers’ stories , reduce our unnecessary expenses to face the challenges in life, he added.

He also appealed to the farmers to stop creating pollution by stubble burning which gives birth to many chronic diseases.

Chahal expressed  hope about the progress of the farmers keeping aside all social evils.

Vineet Kumar ADC in his address advised the farmers to contribute in crop diversification to improve soil health by shifting from traditional crops of wheat and paddy besides switching over to allied professions like dairy, fisheries, horticulture, mushrooms, vegetables, bee-keeping besides food processing, packing and marketing and learn tips from the experiences of  progressive  farmers, to enhance their income to become economically sound.

He said, the examples are before us about the successful stories and the only need is to follow by acquiring the expert knowledge from the concerned departments.

The need of the hour is to switch over to allied professions.  A comprehensive booklet of the successful farmers with complete data would be made available to the farmers for studying and adopting as a profession, he added.

Dr.Satinder Kaur, Chief Agri. Officer said that aim of the seminar that  the farmers should reduce their expenses but increase income by self marketing of their products by putting themselves wiser from the successful stories of the farmers.

Lakhwinder Singh President of Self Help Group, Toot said that our village has excelled in various fields like – sports, education, religious, cultural, literature and development of the village.  The best part is that none of farmers is bank defaulter.

Officer, Dr.Mukhtiar Singh BO, Dr.Resham Sngh, Dr.Surinderpal Singh, Dr.Sukhmandar Singh, Ani.Husbandary, Narinder Singh Malli, Dy.Dir. Horti. Deptt. Dr.Rajinder Kataria, Dy.Director, Fisheries, Dr.Gurjant Singh Aulakh, KVK, Dr.Surinder Kumar Syang and B.C.Khurana.

Present among others progressive farmers were – Jagdip Singh Ansal, Boota Singh Dheera Patra, Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Gurmit Singh Toot, Lakhwinder Singh Aulakh, Gurmit Singh Gamewala, Malkit Singh Gadhri Wala,Gurdeep Singh Gurali, Amarjit Singh Bhure Wala, Jagdish Singh Ansal and Lakhwinder Singh, President, Farm Self Help Club, Toot, Arwinder Singh, Vice President, Mandeep Singh, Cashier, Balraj Singh, Secretary, Satwinder Singh, Member, Balkaran Singh, Gurpeet Singh and Sarabjit Singh.
