Alert jail cops seize mobiles, modified charger from jail inmates
Ferozepur, August 3, 2023: The mobiles phones –the most wanted banned items inside the jail by the inmates for its illegal use to remain connected with the outer world – continue to be seized from the jail inmates with the alter jail staff vigil and the purpose of keeping the criminals behind the bar is lost. During the recent sudden search operations carried out in the jail barracks, two mobiles and one modified charger were recovered from the jail inmates.
Added here, earlier, more than 250 mobiles have been recovered during the current year, from this jail on different checking or thrown from the outside over the high walls or found lying in the campus as unclaimed.
A sudden Operation Satrak, after proper briefing and debriefing conducted, on August 2 for three hours from 12 noon to 3 pm, of 1500 prisoners in 32 barracks and4 high security zones, under the tutelage of Deepak Hillori, SSP with a team of 6 Gazetted Offices (GOs) and 8 Inspectors and 120 male and 20 female police officials.
Keeping the security in mind and also in view the continuance of unabated mobile usage inside the jail promises, reaching inside despite heavy security check at the entry points and over throwing of packets over the 30 ft high walls, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Rajesh Dhiman exercising the powers under Section 144 Cr.P.C. 1973, has also banned the use of drones within a radius of 500 meters around the jail area in Ferozepur by declaring the ‘No Drone Zone’ area.
During the search operations carried out on July 31 and August 2, two mobiles and one modified charger were recovered from the jail prisoners.
As per the information, in the first sudden checking on July 31 from block number 2 and 3, two mobiles were recovered out by Assistant Superintendent, Sarabjit Singh, one was recovered from prisoner Fateh Singh alias Fatta, already lodged in the jail and other was found lying unclaimed. In the search operation carried out, on August 2, by the same Assistant Superintendent, one modified charger was recovered from ward number 3, from under trial prisoner, identified as Arun alias Anu of Kapurthala who is already in the custody of the jail. A case under the Prisons Act has been registered and further investigations are on.
