Sightseeing for blind people: NGO takes visually-impaired on e-rickshaw on local city tour
Ferozepur, April 15, 2023: Have you heard of sightseeing for blind people? But a local NGO, Vipul, who sometime back donated e-rickshaw to Home for the Blind, for dropping the visually impaired inmates to the school, college, bus stand or station, made it possible by taking a few of them for the city tour. The blind cannot see but they feel the pulse whatever is explained to them about the surroundings.
Puran, Supervisor who is associated with the institution, said that a few years back, the inmates were taken to Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir at Amritsar. Even once they were also taken to the Hussainiwala border to witness the retreat ceremony by listening to the patriot songs, sound of foot of BSF jawans and across the zero line of Pakistan rangers which was explained to them by a sighted member.
Vipul took a few of them to the city round and explained the geographical area, and ten gates on the circular road constructed before the partition and now reconstructed with a beautiful look. He said it was a unique experience for me and for the blind as well. They feel the things by touching to make a shape in the mind. They enjoyed the short tour and promised to take them to the Cantonment area to get a feel of religious places and DC and SSP offices locations besides the important eating place of Ramu Ki Puri.
Added here, in the past around 30 blind of Home for the Blind have joined the government service as music teacher and subject teacher. Presently, there are 37 inmates pursuing their studies from Plus2 to Post Graduation from different states like J&K, UP, Kanpur and from Punjab districts also. They spend most of the time in the school or college and rest of the time they remain on the campus and are seen mostly on the mobiles with speaking software. Few of them are very fond of news updates and sit in the library to update them as to what is going on in the country and at world level. It has been seen that sometimes they are more updated than the sighted persons.
Rohit, a blind inmate, thanked the Punjab government for keeping reserved posts for our category and also to Vipul NGO who has made our day a special with hope to sometime enjoy it again.
