Commendable work by Red Cross Society amid Curfew-Lockdown
Ferozepur, May 7, 2020: The Red Cross Society has done a commendable work by serving humanity during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown period.
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated on 8 May each year. This date is the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant, who was born on 8 May 1828. He was the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize. Like previous years, there will be no formal celebrations.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Red Cross under directions of the district administration have distributed food to 45000 to 50000 people from March 28 to April 30.
Ration to around 5,000 was also given by the Red Cross with an association of local NGOs. Apart from this, Masks, PP Kits Gloves and daily useable items to 500-600 people quarantined at different centres on reaching Ferozepur from other states at a cost of Rs.3 lac.
In view of the shortage of blood in the blood bank due to curfew and lockdown, more than 200 youths donated blood voluntarily in the Civil Hospital on an appeal from the district administration.
