In joint raid by excise, police officials ‘lahan’ and illicit liquor seized in Ferozepur, one held
Ferozepur, March 27, 2022: During the raid jointly by police and excise officials, ‘lahan’ and illicit liquor was recovered from village Langeana and arrested one person.
As per the information, during the raid, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Excise, EI Inderpal Singh, EI Prabhjot Singh Virk along with police officials, 750 ltr ‘lahan’ in 6 drums and 30 ltr of illicit liquor in plastic cane was recovered and one accused was also arrested.
The accused arrested was handed over to the Narcotic Cell for registration of FIR under the relevant Section of law.
Earlier also, 925 ltr ‘lahan’ and one working still was recovered from villages Dona Mattar and Gajniwala along the Sutlej banks.
Added here, a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
The department is tracking down all possible history-sheeters who know how to brew liquor in the district and keeping a watch on them, said excise official.
