Ferozepur, April 3, 2020: When citizens are confined to their houses due to curfew in the wake of COVID-19, the various local nongovernmental and social organizations – mostly known as non-profitable,  play a significant role for doing social services in the hour of need, have come forward by taking care of the poor families by providing them food in an organized manner, by preparing a map on day to day basis.

The government can do things only up to a certain point and that is why, these NGOs continue to play their roles alongside the government as sometimes they also fill the gap in areas where very little government work has been done.   It is said that despite India’s progress and development, there is much to be done in many areas, apart from emergency services like during curfew/lockdown in the wak of spread of coronavirus, the role of NGOs, often referred to as the ‘third sector’ becomes relevant.

Among the various NGOs – Ferozepur Langar Sewa and Life Saver Welfare Society – extending Yeoman’s services –  during curfew/lockdown period, by distributing the food in a systematic manner, to avoid any repetition and wastage in the area and holding in the particular slum area.   The volunteers are sticking to the areas allotted to them on the basis of daily management map prepared by them and handing over the packets door-to-door.

However, at the place of preparation of food for around 1200 people, precautionary measures and social distancing is being maintained so that besides providing food to the needy people, the fight against the coronavirus is also won.

The services offered by the members – Shalinder Kumar, Advocate J.S.Sodhi, Vipul Narang, Jimmy Kakkar, Amit Arora, Mitul Bhandari and others are appreciable.  They said, we will continue these services till such time the curfew is lifted.

Another social activist and businessman – V.P. Singh along with Rajpal Singh, Sarpanch Jarnail Singh Virk, Councilor Sushil Kumar, Vicky Sandhu, Paramjit Singh Hajiwala, Man Singh Sidhu, Aman Main – for the last five days is also distributing milk, tea, sugar and bread in this hour of need in the slum and remote areas besides distributing ration to number of families.
