6 mobiles, adopter, data cable seized from Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, April 1, 2024: During the search operation in Central Jail barracks, 6 mobiles, one adopter, and one data cable were seized and two prisoners and the unidentified person were booked under the Prisons Act.
As per the information, the jail staff, acting swiftly on a tip-off received late night on Sunday night around 9.30, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Central Jail conducted a search operation in block number 2 barrack number one, one mobile, with battery and SIM card, from under trial prisoner Sandeep Singh alias Pamma alias Sonu was recovered. Another mobile was recovered from Arshdeep Singh Alias Arsh with a SIM card. During the search of the bathroom of the barrack, 4 touch screen mobiles, one adapter and one data cable were recovered.
This is not the first time recovery, in the past; there had been regular recovery of mobiles and other banned items either smuggled in on visitation or in connivance with the jail staff besides as many as 85 throws during the last three months.
Recovery of mobiles is one issue and the purpose of its usage; from inside the jail has never been revealed except in high-profile cases, which was detected sometime back of making 15,000 calls from two mobiles by the gangsters. Taking the prisoner from whom the mobile is recovered, on remand, out of the jail by the police for in-depth investigation is not free from a security point of view. There had been instances of prisoners escaping from the custody of police resulting in more responsibility on the police.
Merely registration of cases would not suffice; there is a need to tighten the security inside and outside the jail premises and quick follow up of high-profile cases to crack the nexus between the inmates and the outer world, to keep an eye on the activities going on.
