20-ft breach in Gang canal submerges land in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, June 17, 2022:  Around hundred acres of land was submerged in water following a 20-feet wide breach in a minor Gang canal passing through Luthar village in Ferozepur on Friday.

Officials of the irrigation department rushed to the spot and started plugging the breach. How much loss the farmers had to suffer depends on the quantity of the produce and the actual area of the crop, said government officials.   Meanwhile water flowing from the canal to the fields continued unabated.

According to the village residents, the water had started entering fields and caused the canal’s banks, which were too weak to handle the pressure.  However, the villagers were trying to plug the breach to control the situation.

The farmers of the area had already transplanted paddy which had suffered losses.  The exact loss could be assessed of their crops could be known only after the water recedes from their fields.
