Teams of Excise and police teams recover 36,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, May 5, 2022: Continuing its drive against the bootlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, excise and police teams of Ferozepur on Thursday, along with police, succeeded in seizing 36,000 liters of ‘Lahan’ during search operation along the banks of river Satluj from Habib Ke Pattan village.
Earlier, 60,000 ltrs lahan on March 29 from Chakkar Wala Bera village and 64,000 ltrs on April 4 from Habib ke, was also recovered.
In fact, the people residing in the villages along the Sutlej River, have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet on account of easy availability of water.
The raids were conducted under the supervision of AC(Excise), EO, Ferozepur by Excise Inspectors Inderpal Singh and Prabhjot Singh.
Divulging with details, the excise official said, 18 plastic tarpaulins 5 iron drums and equipments of working still, were also taken into possession from unclaimed place. However, the recovered ‘lahan’ was destroyed at drop spot to avoid its misuse.
Police authorities have been informed to proceed further in this recovery and in the meantime, a case has been registered and further investigations are on, said excise official.
