Ferozepur: 72,000 ltrs ‘lahan’, 6,750 illicit liquor bottles seized
Ferozepur, July 30, 2021: To check the illegal manufacture and sale of illicit liquor, the raids are conduced as a part of operations to control it and in a joint raid conducted by excise and police officials, under the supervision of Gurbaksh Singh, Excise Inspector, Circle Zira, in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of villages, Ali ke, Habib ke , Nehanganwale chughe , Chandiwala , Raje Ki Gatti , Chakar Da Bedha & Near Puggar Di Motor, approximately 72 ,000 litres of lahan and 6,750 bottles of illicit liquor recovered and destroyed on the spot being unclaimed and to avoid its misuse.
However, 36 tarpaulins, 22 rubber tubes, 3 iron drums and 4 aluminum utensils have been taken into custody, said excise official.
Added here, It is pertinent to mention that the illicit liquor business, using ‘lahan’ (raw material for making liquor), has been going on in border areas for a long time. a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
Earlier, during July, 77,500 ltrs and 1,700 illiticit liquor bottles were also seized during the two raids on July 23 and 26.
