108 cases registered under Mining Act in 14 months, 131 held in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, February 26, 2024: In a major crackdown on illegal mining, under the Mining Act, as many as 108 cases were registered in Ferozepur district 131 accused were held during the period from1.20.23 to 25.2.2024.
Divulging with details, SSP Soumya Mishra said that out of the total 108 cases, 26 cases have been put in court, one has been cancelled and 81 are under investigation.
In all 131 accused were arrested – 14 owners of land, 117 owners of vehicles. In addition, 106 vehicles -72 tractor trolleys, 20 tippers, 10 earth excavating JCB machines, and 4 other vehicles were impounded from the spots besides 1,09,985 sq. ft. material was also seized.
According to information, in the cases under investigation, the police were in touch with the concerned departments to identify the owner of the land where the accused were doing excavation. The investigations were in progress in the mining racket and whoever was found involved in the illegal operation would be taken to task.
