Zira Liquor Factory Question: Committees meaningless till demands not met, says protesters
Ferozepur, December 24, 2022: The protesters at the on-going protest against an alcohol-making factory at Mansurwal village of Zira in Ferozepur, under the brand name of Malbros International Private Limited, refused to join the committees formed till permanent closure of the unit, saying that the committees are meaningless till their demands are not met.
The committees were formed to go ahead with investigations to solve the problem of Zira Liquor Factory problem which is polluting the environment and water of the area.
The committee with members of Sanjha Morcha members were formed as in the Water Samples Committee, Jatinder Singh and Gurdeep Singh, in Public Hearing Committee, Balwinder Singh and Fateh Singh ( he is presently in judicial custody in case No.192.2022), in the Animals Committee, Chanan Singh and Jagtar Singh, in Panchayati Resolution Committee, Gurmel Singh Sarplanch and Jagtar Singh and in Soil Yield Committee, Harjinder Singh and Raghbir Singh.
The Sanjha Morcha in its social group has clearly stated that the existence of these committees will be meaningless till such time the cases registered are not cancelled, arrested persons are not released, people coming to join the protest are not stopped. During the investigation the protest will continue as hitherto and the factory will remain closed.
The protesters – Bharti Kisan Union, Sukhinder Singh Khosa, President – has warned to step up the protest if their demands are not met saying that they are fighting to save environment and the fight will continue to fight till permanent closure of the factory.
However, in an audio message in Sanjha Morcha group, they protesters have made an appeal to the villagers for collecting the data of deaths in the area due to illness. They are also planning to arrange dharna in front of gate number 2, opened for the factory workers as a part of intensify the agitation.
Meanwhile, DC has appealed to the people of the villages adjacent to the liquor factory, panchayats, people’s representatives and the leaders of the joint front to place their issues before these committees so that a report in this regard can be placed before the Punjab Government and the Punjab and Haryana High Court. She said that more and more people should put their demands and issues before the committees so that the government can solve them.
