Water Supply and Sanitation workers protest for better working conditions
Ferozepur August 6, 2018: Today, the Water Supply and Sanitation Contractor Workers Union Punjab along with their family members expressed their resentment over privatization of water supply schemes by relieving the contractual employees, by burning the effigy of Cabinet Minister Rajia Sultana. They vowed to intensify a month-long protest over their demands.
Sanitation works alleged that they are working without any basic safety gear and in deteriorating conditions.
The contract workers in hundreds joined the protest was led by Balkar Singh Piariana, President, Harjinder Singh Momi, General Secretary.
Speaking on the occasion of State General Secretary Kuldip Sigh Budhewal, Vice President Rupinder Singh and State Press Secretary Satnam Singh Phalianwala said, the Punjab government is going to privatize the Water Supply Department while the Congress government in its manifesto had included ‘one house-one job’ agenda. But the government has forgotten all such promised after coming into power.
They said, the Union has decided to organize the protest throughout the month of August with burning of the effigy of Razia Sultana, Cabinet Minister and today’s protest in Ferozepur was in the line of this programme.
The Union demanded to make arrangements to regularize the field and office workers working under enlistment policy and out-sourcing.
Later the protesters also marched in the bazaar and concluded at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk.
