Visually impaired gets jab at Blind Home Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 23, 2021: As many as 18 visually impaired inmates of Home for the Blind were given first dose of Covid vaccine on Friday at an event tailored especially for them at a camp organized by Health Department team and in collaboration with Chandigarh Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ).
The Covid-9 pandemic has been especially challenging for peope with visually impairments as they are dependent on others and touch to discern there they are.
The visually impaired persons should have been given the Covid vaccine on priority as maintaining social distance was a challenge for such class when out in the community or on public transportation as they are not able to identify if those around them re wearing masks, making them more vulnerable, said Avtar Singh, Supervisor Home for the Blind.
Anirudh Gupta, President, CPUJ and all the members, thanked the dedicated Civil Hospital team members – Ramandeep Singh and Lakhwinder Kaur Team No.2 and for the vaccination camp. He also lauded the efforts of the Home for the Blind for taking care of the inmates by providing them free lodging and boarding, education and medical facility. Gupta expressed his pleasures that barring few inmates in old age, all other are getting the school and college level education. He also offered any kind of help for the up-lifting of the inmates of Home for the Blind.
Vishnu, one of the inmate was grateful to finally get a dose of the vaccine, said more needs to be done by the local citizens for the welfare of the institution, being run purely on public donations, to live more comfortably like the sighted and common men.
