Ferozepur, October 16, 2015 (FON Bureau) : With the formation of Paddlers Club in the city, with an aim of creating awareness about health and environment, the numbers of peoples are switching over to cycling.
Vipan Sharma, working as Superintendent (Revenue) in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, was the second to join daily paddling with Harish Monga, social activist – who conceived the idea of starting daily cycling about a month back.
All the members of Paddlers’ Club are daily paddling 10-15 kms from Udham Singh Chowk to Octroi No.1 and back with a halt at Gandhi Garden and Saragarhi Gurudawara.
About 20 people have joined the Paddlers’ Club and more are likely to join in the coming days. Within a short span, the Paddlers Club besides organizing a cycle rally from Saragarhi Gurudawara to Hussainwaila Martyrs’ Memorial, to commemorate the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Birthday Celebrations on 28th September in which more than 100 students from different five schools participated, the members have also explored on paddling the different routes by visiting the organic farm, cow farm, Dulchi Ke village, Attari Village.
Not only this, one of the member, Sohan Singh Sodhi, who got motivation from Bhatinda paddler Rakesh Narula who paddled from Ferozepur to Bhatinda and back on cycle, also paddled Ferozepur-Muktsar and back on cycle in a single day.
Vipan Sharma, added another feather to Club by dedicating himself to paddle to his office, on every Friday.
Speaking to this correspondent, Vipan Sharma said, he has started motivating his staff and hope more officials will join him for daily paddling in the morning and dedicating one day for coming to office on cycle. This will not only motivate others, the cycling will also help in maintaining health and contributing for making the city free from pollution to some extent, he said confidently.
He further said, the club will organize more events in the city to encourage the people to start paddling.
