Villagers along river advised to stay away from river as a precautionary measure
Ferzepur, August 11, 2015: With the present flow of water, the villages near Satluj face no flood threat. In the meantime, the government has released Rs.70 lac to strengthen the Advance Protection Dhussi Bundh.
Today, Er.DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner alongwith officials from civil, police, army, BSF, Home Guard, Canal and Revenue, visited the Hazara, Gatti Rajo Ki, Rahime Ki, Jalle Ki, Wasti Bhane Wali, Tendi Wala across the Satluj river.
With the release of extra water from Bhakhra and Pong Dams, around 46,000 cusecs water from Harike Head Works is going down stream to Hussainiwala and further 42,000 cusecs is being released, said DC.
He further said, the Satluj river has the capacity of more than 1 lac cusecs and as such, presently there is no flood threat. All the heads of the departments were however, advised to keep liaison with the residents of the area and alert them, in the event of increase of water to danger level besides extending any kind of help.
Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the people residing along the Satluj river to stay away from the river and restrain from crossing the river even the animals. He said, in case any damage or loss to the crop of any farmer, the government will provide adequate compensation.
He also confirmed of having made all requirement arrangements by the administration to help the flood affected people. The required boats are also available with the BSF, Army and district administration.
Sources said around Rs.105 lac were required for the reinforcement, widening and further strengthening of the Dhussi Bundh near Khanna Kalan village on the Moga-Ferozepur border. However, the government has failed to act despite several reminders. However, Rs.70 lac has been released to strengthen the Advance Protection Dhussi Bundh, said Deputy Commissioner.

Accompanied the Deputy Commissioner were Sundeep Singh Garha, SDM, Bhupinder Singh, Tehsildar, Nitish Deputy Commandant, BSF and officials from various concerned departments.
