Villagers being shifted to ‘Relief Camps’ : Kamal, Pinky and Nannu visited border villages
Ferozepur, October 1, 2016: The families living alongside Indo-Pak border within 10 KMs radius are shifting to safer places, relatives at a distance places and relief camps. Despite uncertainty of war, the people don’t want to shift permanently.
The civil, army and police administration areseen busy in holding meetings to take stocks of the situation and making arrangements for the stay of evacuated families, by holding meetings. Principal Secretary, R.Venkat Ratnam, Commissioner, V.K.Meena, IG Bahtinda Zone, S.K.Asthana held separate meetings with senior civil, police and army authorities of Ferozepur to review the security as well as rehabilitation arrangements for the evacuated villagers.
Forgetting the Assembly election campaigns, all political leaders – Kamal Sharma, former BJP President and Member National Executive Committee BJP, Parminder Singh Pinky local Congress MLA and Sukhpal Singh Nannu, former CPS – are seen in the border villages between the Satluj River and Zero Line – Gatti Rajo Ke, Tendi Wala, Hazara Singh Wala, Chandi Wala, Jhuge Hazara – to keep up their morale, in the circumstances after the high alert announcement on account of Surgical Attack in J&K by Indian Army by entering into the PoK area.
In Ferozepur, 30 Relief Camps have been set up and around 15000 persons of 365 villages touching 85 KMs Pakistan border line have moved to safer places whereas only 250 have reported at Relief Camps.
The reasons for non-shifting to relief camps or safer places is only the standing ripe crop of paddy ready to cash and livestocks – dairy the only source of their income. More-over, the villages have seen the two wars 1965 and 1971 and in view of no movement of army along the zero line, there is no emergency like feeling in them. At the same time, their belongings, livestock and standing crops are important now.
In the meantime, the retreat ceremony at the Indo-Pak border has been cancelled. Petrol pumps were seen queue up for filling up the tanks of vehicles to full capacity. Rush to the ATMs to keep certain cash with them was also seen. However, the life in the rural is normal as usual and there is no panic among the people so far.
Er.DPS Kharbanda, DC Ferozepur claimed of having all arrangements in hand to face any circumstances – may be rehabilitation of evacuated persons, boarding and lodging, food and feed for livestock, quick procurement of paddy in the border belt villages etc.
