Under trial prisoner escapes from police custody, 4 booked
Ferozepur, July 16, 2022: A prisoner escaped from police custody while he was being taken to the hospital for treatment on Saturday.
According to the doctor on duty, Dr.Kindra, under trial prisoner, identified as Gurdip Singh, was suffering from pain in his ankle and was brought to the hospital. He was available on the bed when he was examined and just after 15 minutes, he was not available. On not finding him in the campus, the matter was reported to the senior officers and report in writing was given to the police also.
Mohit Dhawan, SHO City informed the prisoner under trial was admitted in the hospital for treatment, from where he escaped on the night of July 14 despite deployment of adequate guards.
Taking cognizance of the negligence on the part of jail inmate who gave the police the slip and four police officials – ASI Bir Singh, Kamal Kumar, Amrit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Punjab Home Guard jawan – deputed to guard him; a case has been registered against them, under number 253 under Sections 223 and 224. However, the hunt is on to re-arrest the prisoner and will be nabbed shortly, said SHO.
