Under ‘Release UTRC@75’ campaign, 152 under trial prisoners released
Ferozepur, August 13, 2022: As many as 152 under trial prisoners presently facing trial in different cases were released on bail or closure of case as per jail rules under ‘Release UTRC@75’ campaign of 75 years of India’s Independence.
Earlier, a special weekly meetings of URTC members – District and Sessions Judge, judicial officials, DLSA, DC, SSP, District Attorney and Jail Superintendent, was held and after reviewing the data of detainees from the Central jail and from all the judicial courts under Sections 379, 61/1/14, 52-A, and other minor cases, 152 prisoners have so far been considered fit for relief, have been released, by closing their cases, some by paying personal bond and some by the District Legal Aid office, after getting bail bonds from them in the respective courts as per the jail rules.
Divulging with details, Virinder Kumar Aggarwal, District and Sessions Judge, Ferozepur said, as per recommendations of the Under Trial Review Committee, 141 under trial prisoners have been released between 13 July to 13 August and 11 more prisoners are being released today, after holding a camp court in the jail premises today, making the total tally of release of prisoners to 152.
Ekta Uppal, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority was also present on this occasion.
He said, all these under trial prisoners were in jail in petty criminal cases. In certain cases, they were not able to fulfill the bail conditions and in certain cases the security amount is too high, which has been reduced or application has been submitted for release on personal bond. In cases, the concerned courts have released them on personal bonds keeping in view their detention period and some cases have been disposed of during their already detention period.
