Under ‘Operation Red Rose’, 10 booked for illicit liquor trade
Ferozepur, May 24, 2020: On the third consecutive day, the police and excise department cracking down on illicit liquor trade, has put its hand on the recovery of 316 bottles of illicit liquor and 100 liter of ‘lahan’ at seven different stations of this border district besides arresting three persons out of ten booked under Excise Act.
The police and excise department under ‘Operation Red Rose’ had been conducting raids, which was planned due to growing losses to the state exchequer.
The cases under the Excise Act have been registered against ten persons. Only three persons could be arrested while the remaining fled away after the raids by the joint teams of police and excise department.
In the past three days, more than 50 cases have already been registered in a joint operation by Punjab Police and Excise Department in Ferozepur.
Earlier, in one operation, 1.30 lakh liter of ‘lahan‘ was dumped in the Sutlej River near Hussainiwala international border besides recovery of 3,000 liters of distilled country-made liquor, said to be the biggest seizure of ‘lahan’ and country-made liquor in the stated followed by recovery of more than one lakh liter ‘lahan’ and 849 bottles of illicit liquor.
