Ferozepur, November 18, 2016 : Three research innovations by the faculty and students of ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus(SBSSTC), Ferozepur were selected for the ‘Young Scientists Conclave’ in ‘2nd India International Science Festival (IISF)’being organized by ‘Ministry of  Science & Technology’ and ‘Council of Scientific & Industrial Research(CSIR)’ from Dec 07-11, 2016 in ‘National Physical Laboratory(NPL)’, New Delhi with an aim to spread the research and innovations to the public, the theme of IISF-2016 was set as ‘Science for the masses.

Giving this information, Prof. Rajiv Arora, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department said, the series of India International Science Festival (IISF) is an integral part of India’s long term vision in developing and widening the spectrum of scientific temper in India and abroad. To display India&#39s contribution in the field of S&T and to motivate the young scientists to find solutions to the burning issues of our society; the 1st IISF was held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) New Delhi in December, 2015.

He further said, the festival primarily aimed to involve and include commoners with a view to improve their scientific understanding, temperament and appreciation for various feats in science & technology by showcasing Indian achievements.

Two proposals by Rajiv Arora, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department and one research by Ms Harshita Agrawal, Final year student of B.Tech (Chemical Engg.) of SBSSTC, Ferozepur were included in the final round of the Young Scientists Conclave of IISF-2016.

The first selected research topic of Prof Rajiv Arora is from ‘Waste to wealth’ in which the complete utilization of hazardous rice husk ash will be presented.

The second selected research of Prof Arora is from the conference area – ‘Sustainable development and cleaner production’. Ms Harshita Agrawal of Final year Chemical Engg. will present her project on quick production technique of biodiesel production under the IISF theme of ‘Green synthesis and cleaner production’.

Dr T S Sidhu , Director of SBSSTC, Ferozepur congratulating and wish for them a bright future, Prof Arora and Ms Harshita for the selection of their innovations in the International event said, the participation of the selected researchers will be fully sponsored by the ‘Department of Science and Technology (DST)’.
