Ferozepur, August 4, 2017: After the a day-long token strike on Wednesday by the truckers in the Punjab, the truck unions have started protesting at the sub-division level also against the Congress government’s decision to dissolve all 134 truck unions in the state affecting the 4 lakh families who ear their livelihood though the business.
Today, on a call of the State Truck Union President, the truckers of Zira and Mallalwala Truck Unions led District President Babu Singh Bharana protested in front of the SDM office against the dissolution of the truck unions and raised slogans against the Punjab Government. Later, they burnt the copy of the notification of the government in protest.
Speaking on the occasion, District President Babu Singh Bharana said that with this unfortunate decision of the government, the employment of about 4 lakh families of Punjab will be lost. The leaders asked the government to reconsider the decision to disrupt the truck unions.
Sources said, the reason behind dissolution of truck unions is save the state from charging of heavy transportation rates whereas the reimbursement by the Food Corporation of India to the procuring agencies in the state are very low resulting in accumulation of bills in crores as recoverable without squaring up of accounts for many years.
