To curb celebratory firing, police told owners to ensure marriage palaces as ‘arms-free zone’
Ferozepur, December 29, 2022: To curb celebratory firing, most prominently during weddings, a meeting between police officials and the owners of marriage palaces, was held here today. The police asked them to prominently display the information declaring their premises as arms-free zone and ensure that no one carry arms inside the marriage palaces. The meeting was headed by G.S.Cheema, Superintendent Police.
The Punjab government has already decided to take an affidavit from those seeking new arms licence or renewal that they will abide by any restriction on carrying of arms and shall not carry arms during marriage and other functions.
The step has been taken following the instances of celebratory firing at these places during functions, which sometimes led to killings of innocent persons in the past.
The police officials asked the owners to display a board declaring the premises as arms-free zone at the entrance or at any prominent place in their buildings so that the visitors could refrain from carrying arms.
Many tragic instances took place in the past in which celebratory fires led to the killing of innocent persons at functions.
He said, the aim of issuing instructions is to discourage such instances in the future. Only security guards on such premises can carry weapons. Marriage palace will be held responsible for any untoward incident or if they fail to ensure weapon-free zone in their complexes.
