Teams of Excise and police teams recover 64,000 ‘lahan’ in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 4, 2022: Continuing its drive against the bootlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, excise and police teams of Ferozepur on Monday, along with police, succeeded in seizing 64,000 liters of ‘Lahan’ during a search operation along the bank of the river Satluj from Habib Ke village.
Added here, a huge recovery of 60,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered recently on March 29 from Chakkar Wala Bera along the Sutlej River. In fact, the people residing in the villages along the Sutlej River, have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up the illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet on account of the easy availability of water.
The raids were conducted under the supervision of AC(Excise) by EO, Excise Inspectors Inderpal Singh, and Nirmal Singh.
Divulging with details, the excise official said, 32 tarpaulins 3 iron drums, and 4 silver utensils were also taken into possession from the unclaimed place. However, the recovered ‘lahan’ was destroyed at the drop spot to avoid its misuse.
Police authorities have been informed to proceed further in this recovery and in the meantime, a case has been registered and further investigations are on, said an excise official.
