Swift Action: Police Arrest Three in ₹1 Crore Extortion Attempt
Ferozepur, April 4, 2025 – The Ferozepur Police have successfully cracked an extortion case within 24 hours, arresting three individuals who allegedly threatened a local resident with death in an attempt to extort ₹1 crore. The CIA staff of Ferozepur Police acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of the accused.
An FIR was registered under case number 89, dated April 2, 2025, under Section 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (B.N.S.) at City Ferozepur Police Station.
Providing details, SSP Bhupinder Singh stated that on April 2, 2025, Ashish Sharma, a resident of Ferozepur City, reported to the police that unknown individuals had called him, demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore and threatening to kill him. Acting on this information, the police immediately registered a case and launched an investigation.
The three accused in the extortion case have been identified as – Chamkaur Singh (27 years) – Resident of Tarn Taran district, currently residing in Faridkot, Karandeep Sharma (22 years) – Resident of Village Tibbin in Gurdaspur district and Palwinder Singh (24 years) – Resident of Basti Bhattian Wali, Ferozepur City. All three accused were arrested on April 3, within 24 hours of the complaint.
SSP Singh mentioned that while no prior criminal records of the accused have been found, investigations are still ongoing. The accused were known to each other and had met at a relative’s house while planning to go abroad. Before executing the extortion, they first snatched a mobile phone in Faridkot and then identified their target, considering it a “soft” case.
Inspector Mohit Dhawan, in-charge of the CIA Staff, swiftly acted on the complaint. With the help of reliable sources, the police traced the three suspects and arrested them on April 3, 2025, near the backside of Gandhi Garden, Cantt Ferozepur.
During the arrest, the police recovered a dummy pistol, 7 mobiles including the previously snatched mobile phone, and a Maruti Brezza car.
