Ferozepur, October 23 (FOB) : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and President Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today attended Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib here at Gurudwara Jamni Sahib, village Bajidpur and prayed for strengthening communal harmony, peace and amity in the state.

Addressing a huge gathering on this occasion, The Deputy Chief Minister said the recent happenings, such as the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji , have caused immense pain not only to the Sikh Qaum but also to the humanity as a whole. He said “he is also deeply saddened and anguished by these ignominious happenings”.

e emphasized that the sole motive of the Punjab Government is to put the real culprits responsible for these reprehensible incidents, behind the bars and bring out the truth before the public.

Assuring the people, the Deputy Chief Minister  said that the state government is fully committed to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state and nobody would be allowed to vitiate the atmosphere. He informed that the police is investigating the incidents very minutely so as to get to the root of the problem.

Mr Badal said that the motive behind the sacrilege incidents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is to weaken the State, Shiromani Akali Dal, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) but the entire Sikh Qaum and the Punjab Government would not allow the nefarious designs of such anti social forces to succeed.

He said that the history of Shiromani Akali Dal is full of sacrifices and the Akali workers and leaders of this 95 year old organization have made immense sacrifices in the freedom struggle as well as contributions for the all round development of the State and country. Stating that the SAD is the paramount organization of the Sikh Qaum and some forces are instigating the religious feelings of the people with the evil designs to weaken it. He further said that the SAD has always rendered a helping hand to the Sikhs living in India and abroad.

About the recent attacks on the SGPC members, MLAs of SAD, the Deputy Chief Minister said that this is a deep rooted political conspiracy. He announced that the Paths of Sri Akhand Path Sahib would be performed in every Vidhan Sabha constituency in order to strengthen the ties of peaceful co-existence and communal harmony.

Divulging more, S. Badal said that the State Government had chalked out a comprehensive plan for the development of the state in accordance with which every Vidhan Sabha constituency was to get Rs. 25-50 crore for making Punjab a model state but some political forces inimical to the development, are fanning the fire of communalism to derail the all round development of the state. He appealed to the people to keep calm and assured that the state government would take severe action against the people responsible for these dastardly acts.

Talking with the media persons, S. Badal said that the recent happenings would have no impact on the upcoming Investor Summit to be held this month at Mohali and more than 100 industrial giants would give their nod for investing in the state. Disclosing more, he said that soon the roads closed at one or two places due to the agitations would be opened resulting in the fastening the pace of development. He appealed to the protestors to remove obstacles on roads so as not to cause inconvenience to the common people and instead begin the series of Akhand Paths.

Addressing people on this occasion, the Punjab BJP President Mr. Kamal Sharma said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji gives the message of peace and brotherhood to the humanity and the sacred gurbani in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji guides the people. Terming the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as an act of anti-social forces, he said that such people have no religion. He appealed to the people of Punjab to maintain their calm and beware of the rumours in this difficult time. He asked the people to resolve all the issues amicably and in peaceful manner.

MLA Joginder Singh Jindu, Halqa Incharge Guruharsahai Vardev Singh Mann and District President  Avtar Singh Minna Chairman Co-operative Bank Punjab also addressed the Sangat on this occasion and expressing anguish over the sacrilege, appealed to the Deputy CM to take strict action against the culprits responsible for this act. They also said that the people of Punjab have presented an example of brotherhood during the recent happenings. They asked the people to maintain this spirit of brotherhood and co-existence. The Deputy Chief Minister also partook langar on this occasion.
