Sukhbir demands action against police personnel in killing incident of Akali workers in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 4, 2017 : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today gave a clarion call to the new Congress governent to arrest culprits involved in the gruesome murder of two members of an Akali family at Rukanshahwala village on May 2 within 48 hours following which the SAD would announce its next course of action in the matter. He also demanded action against police personnel who failed to do their duty leading to the death of the Akali workers.
The SAD president dashed to this city to join and express solidarity with Akali workers who held a dharna outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here. Mr Badal’s visit to the dharna site evoked immense enthusiasm amongst the akali rank and file who announced they would intensify their agitation in case the new government did not give them justice.
Mr Badal said it was shocking that the district police had failed to act in the matter despite having all knowledge about the those involved. He said ten to fifteen Congress goons attacked the residence of SAD Ferozepur rural vice president Balwinder Singh and injured him besides shooting dead his father Harnam and brother Joginder.
Blaming the district police for the shootout and subsequent death of the two Akali workers, Mr Badal said Balwinder had approached the police repeatedly and complained that he was being threatened with death by Congress activist Lakha Dhillon. The SAD President said Lakha even threatened the family on facebook besides sending messages to them. “An attempt was made by Lakha to attack the Akali family on April 1 but they escaped because they were not home. We demand immediate action against the police personnel who turned a deaf year to the plight of this family leading to their death”, he added.
Stating that it was not difficult to arrest all the accused, the SAD president said the only problem in doing so was pressure from prominent Congress workers of the area who were facebook friends of Lakha and the other accused. “I have been maintaining that the police force is being pressurised by Congress activisits and is failing to deliver justice. This incident proves this contention. The SAD will not remain silent to such repressive tactics. In case we do not get justice within two days, we will take recourse to further action to pressurise the government to act decisively in this matter”, he added.
Meanwhile the bodies of two deceased Akali workers were yet to be cremated, even more than two days after the killing.
