Ferozepur, May 16, 2016 :  The teachers – under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiya (RMSA) – who produce every class – doctor, engineer, corporate head, businessman, even teachers – are without wages for the last four months.

There are around 12,000 teachers working under the central government schemes have not been provided salaries for the past four months.

Added here that under the said scheme, the teachers are working for the past several years but the state government was not willing to regularize their services.

In fact, under the central scheme, the ratio fixed for contribution towards the scheme is 60:40 – Centre and Punjab Governemnt which include wages, extracurricular activities and development funds.  As per the sources, no funds have been released under SSA for the last four months by the Central Government which comes to the tune of around Rs.200-250 crores against the month monthly budget of Rs.50 crore.

Similarly, the ratio for RMSA is 75:25 and the teachers under this scheme too have not been paid wages for the past four months.

Anand Kumar and Ashish Julala posted at Ferozepur and Jalandhar under SSA/RMSA – single earning hands of the family –  said, if the teacher which produces every class is without wages for several months, it becomes difficult to survive in the society and to run the family affairs.

Rajinder Singh Press Secretary of SSA/RMSA Union said, an assurance was also given to arrange a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on their demands which too have not been materialized.

It looks that our bureaucracy still lacks in administration, planning and vision even after 69 years of independence and we are left with no alternative except to resort to indefinite protest, he added.

He further stated that majority of the teaching and non-teaching staff under the scheme are married and crossed the limit to join any other job for which the job avenues are very remote in the present circumstances.

Both, Punjab and Central Governments should come out with a permanent solution of regularizing the staff and regular release of wages.
