Six mobiles unearthed during search operations in Ferozepur Jail
Ferozepur, August 22, 2023: The mobile phone, the most wanted banned item, usage continued unabated inside the jail. During the search operation in recent days, six mobiles were recovered from the Central Jail, from the inmate and the other lying in the bathroom as unclaimed. More than 250 mobiles reported to have been recovered during the current year, by the alert jail staff.
Despite tight security, the smuggling of the mobiles to the jail continued unabated as it is one of the most wanted banned items to stay connected with the outer world with the family member and for running the illegal business from the jail. The connivance of jail staff cannot be ruled as in the past there had been arrest of hospital staff and Home Guard jawans. Throwing of packets and balls containing banned items including the mobiles over the high walls from the open backside of jail had also been reported.
Sources said, in-depth investigation is also a problem as taking the concerned prisoner on remand outside the jail is not free from a security point of view and the matter ends with the recovery and registration of cases.
As per the information, Nirmaljit Singh, Assistant Superintendent along with his staff, conducted a search operation at block number 2, block number 3, one mobile with battery and SIMcard was recovered from under trial prisoner Fateh Singh. Later one, on searching the bathroom, one mobile with battery and SIM card was recovered as unclaimed.
Earlier on August 14, 3 mobiles were also recovered. One from the under trial prisoner Jagdip Singh who was admitted in the civil hospital due stomach, who disclosed that the mobile has been arranged from his friend at Arif Ke Mahavir Singh, who delivered him during his ‘mulakat’ in the prisoner ward, second from prisoner Charan Singh and third from under trial prisoner Jasplal Singh from old barrack number 2 and on August 15, one mobile was recovered during search operation.
